When we looked at the listing photos, we were immediately drawn to the fact the house was attached to the ancient wall. The 3 floors, the green shutters, the brick arch, the arched window, in other words the character. The price was what made us offer. It was a true deal in our opinion.
What we found upon arrival was very outdated 1967- renovations. 7 beds; 3 queens and 4 twins, a kitchen table (very outdated vinyl top), 6 kitchen chairs brown wood, 7 red kitchen chairs, a bunch of random storage cabinets, 12 frying pans, 5 brooms, random junk that should’ve been thrown out, the list goes on. There were 7 kitchen cabinets that were 70’s wood style. They were in excellent condition, just not my style. Mike took those down and replaced with open shelving.
I think we both did an amazing job transforming this outdated rustic home and made it a beautiful, charming vacation villa. It’s clean, comfortable and cozy. It’s actually beautiful.
Eventually I plan on putting the house on Airbnb. Maybe even just the first floor. Until then, we are going to rent it to friends & family. People who we can say “hey there’s some quirks, the house is 700 years old” and they’ll understand & appreciate what they’re staying in. I also would need to get with a cleaner if we did Airbnb & that wasn‘t set up on this past trip. There’s a few other things like putting up a keyless entry code; we brought one to install but the front door isn’t designed for one. We do plan on changing out the front door to allow more light in. Then we can get a deadbolt & the keyless lock on.
Anyway, if you find yourself wanting to go and check out properties in Italy of your own, you are more than welcome to reach out and rent ours if you’re in the Rome area. Or flying into Rome and want to check out this incredible village. It definitely worth the 45 -50 min ride, it’s beautiful and quaint and intriguing.
Jet lag is a real thing. I’m falling asleep typing this. I’m just so excited to show some after photos. Theses are just some I have ready to upload. More to come. Mike & I are experienced Airbnb hosts. We are actually proud “super hosts”. We began hosting guests in our home in 2016 when we lived in Sandwich, on Cape Cod Massachusetts. We have since moved back to central Florida. Our home here is actively listed on Airbnb. Just outside Disney World. So if you ever come to central Florida to Disney, or the beaches or to golf …or for a getaway reach out:)
Doing an Airbnb in Italy is a different ballgame. We need to have a cleaning company in place and arrange for appropriate check ins/out etc., I hope to get this all situated by next year. We don’t have to rent this home, but why not have an extra income coming in. This home is technically 2 units, however some small renovations would be required to make it function that way. There currently is no door separating floor 1 to floor 2. But, that is an easy installation for Mike. Just more planning! Next trip. The house is 3 levels. 2 full bathrooms, although the upstairs shower is a bit unconventional- you just shower & the whole bathroom showers with you. We plan to change that, even just install something to add a curtain. It’s doable if needed. The 2nd floor has a queen & twin!
The 3rd floor has a queen & 3 twins!
We still plan on adding ceiling fans upstairs and drop lighting. If we did nothing else, the house is lovely, but we will do little by little now. The main things over the past month were addressing the plumbing, electric and that was taken care of! ☺️. We are still going to install a pellet stove & received the quote for that. And eventually a regular oven. We got by with the stovetop for a month. I wish I had a crockpot, so that’s an easy add.
Enjoy ❤️
