I’m not quite sure if it’s all my emotions or my absolute anxiety over our flight tomorrow … or both or my husband snoring in my face but I should be sleeping. It’s almost 2:00 am in Rome. We are departing Rome Fiumicino Airport tomorrow at 8:30 am. Arriving into JFK (NY) at 1:30 pm with a quick 2 hr layover…and then home, in Orlando, Florida.
I have lots to share about this process of traveling during a flipping pandemic, my nose is still bothered from the covid test. Mike swears they don’t stop inserting the swab until they see you fill up with tears. Ouch!! The good news I can report (personally) I had covid back a year ago. I was very sick starting on March 15, 2020. I have been re tested at least 10 -12 times now for traveling. Mostly up to Boston from Orlando for college move in day, my daughters surgery, a false positive scare by my daughter (that resulted in everyone retesting both rapid & PCR) etc., and now this trip twice. I have never re-tested positive. So I personally believe in immunity after infection. Praying on that.
We are staying at the Airport hotel, Air Rooms ~ Hello Sky. We had to return our rental & knew we had the testing situation to deal with. In order to make it a smooth departure staying here was an excellent decision. It’s actually just off the terminal inside the airport. The room is very comfortable and very clean. Room service and very helpful concierge, who printed our Assertion forms to provide Delta with tomorrow. We booked the room through our chase travel points, so it was very affordable especially for this convenience. I believe the room rate was around $140.00. Anyone looking for easy, quick accessibility to the terminal at FIU, you can’t go wrong. Especially traveling first time, solo or just for convenience.
Testing was very easy here as well. We were able to “sign up” online via a link on our delta flight info or in the Airport website. At this point I honestly don’t know. We headed to the testing area and Mike & I were the ONLY passengers being tested. Only. Clearly not a normal scenario as there were que lines like at Disney set up.. just thankfully nobody in them. There were bays 1-8 then 9-18 with nobody. We were tested after a brief discussion in Italian between 3 of the workers. Apparently they were confirming we only required a rapid. We were going to JFK… yes, yes… a bit back & forth and then we paid 20 euros each and off to the next station. The test. It was brief, then we had to wait probably 15 minutes and were thankfully given our negatives! And that was it.
I hope to answer everyone’s questions by early next week. Unless I can get some inflight WiFi to work tomorrow. My ears are heavy. And by ears I meant eyes.
