Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all the Irish and everyone else who is Irish today. I myself am almost all Irish. Both my mom & dad are Irish. My moms mom, my nana‘s surname is Delaney & my maiden name is Dunn. My dad, Michael Patrick Dunn definitely an Irishman ☘️. Kerry, Ireland is on my bucket list of places to visit! So definitely feeling my Irish roots today all the way in Italy. Missing my dad, and wishing I could just call and hear his voice. ☘️ May your blessings outnumber the shamrocks that grow ☘️ And may trouble avoid you wherever you go ☘️. Irish blessings.
Today midweek we are in the final stretch. We now leave Saturday (spending the night at the airport) for an early Sunday flight back to Florida. I know we’re doing the right thing by heading home early, it actually saved us a full airfare too. Just knowing we’re leaving, I am already missing this craziness. It will be missed. The friends we’ve made in such a short time, will be missed. Today we had tea & coffee with our neighbors and new parents, Lida & Stephano. Baby Matteo is as sweet as ever. He is truly the most precious little boy. It was wonderful to have met them and watch their joy bringing a new baby home. A new baby in the village. They’re full of wonderful information about local things, utilities etc., a great resource right here! And obviously speaking English is a major help to us. We were blessed in meeting them and are truly so grateful. Along with our other neighbor GiovannI, he has been an incredible help over the past few weeks. Meeting such wonderful neighbors makes the next trip less intimidating I guess. We had no idea how we would be received here. How would the locals, neighbors feel or interact with us. We definitely didn‘t expect to meet English speaking neighbors. So, to have been welcomed and received so graciously…despite our few shenanigans …ok…. many shenanigans we feel so grateful.
Yesterday we did receive our new washer machine delivered. We did something right. Now if we can just figure out how to use it. I think yesterday I had a wash on for a 6 hr cycle. When the store was delivering it, the guy WhatsApp me… leave it to google translate to crack us up. Apparently when you order a washer machine & have it delivered… they’ll bring a potato right away. Anyway for an extra $25 euros they delivered it to our door, installed it AND removed the old clunker! Money well spent!
We heard the mosquitoes are awful in the summer, so Mike is busy making screens. We bought strapping wood and screen at the local Casa & Company. The bug zapper the previous owners had in the kitchen doesn’t work for this girl. Nope …I don’t want to see bugs or hear them. Yes, the windows are so beautiful to open, but I don’t need pigeons or mosquitoes taking up space in Casa Del Smart. So screens go in!
Tomorrow we plan to finish the odds & ends projects, then Friday just relax. What does that actually mean when you own a home. Trust me, when you own a (we literally have no idea the age of this home) I think the projects will always be there. We’re embracing the crazy! Finding joy in the problems! Looking for the positives in the negatives and counting our blessings. I still can’t believe WE DID THIS. If you have it in your heart to follow a dream, do it #YOLO – You Only Live Once.
It’s so true, life is out there. If you’re happy & content where you are forever & a day, that’s amazing too. If you thought of a simply insane, crazy yet exciting adventure to purchase a 100’s year old home, in a foreign country during a flipping worldwide pandemic- sight unseen…BTW… we know people who did just that .. we are those cray cray peeps! So just Do it! But expect the worst and when it’s not all that bad, you’ll enjoy every moment. Thank you Jesus for all of this wonderful chaos we get to call our life. I think the sunsets here are worthy of sharing every single night. They are just magical. The most ridiculous thing ever- our listing had no mention of a view. The agent never mentioned it, so we had no idea out our very own window we get to witness the most glorious sunset over the mountains & valley. Incredible.
Ciao friends 🧡
